So tranquil and beautiful is this locale, I was compelled to visit two months in a row! Surrounded by mangroves, three aquatic preserves and with mostly agricultural zoning, you feel like you've escaped the cement and development of other Florida islands. Zoning limits now in place allow future growth but preserve this unique atmosphere for years to come.
A bit of local history, great Florida seafood, a haven for artists and phenomenal fishing: That is Matlacha (pronounced MATT-LA-SHAY); both the waterway, which separates Pine Island from mainland Southwest Florida, and the quirky village clustered near the bridge from Cape Coral to Little Pine Island.
